Where did all this stuff come from?
My amazing husband helped me move my stuff to my new classroom and it wasn't till ALL the boxes were stacked on cabinets did I actually see how much stuff I brought with me. I had to just take a seat and stare for a while at the blank walls and endless possibilities. Putting my welcome mat down felt great, and made the room feel like it was mine to create.
I've got these cabinets that line a wall under my windows and they are all blank. I will fill them with art supplies, books, and a bunch of different goodies but not sure if I'll put anything on the actual cabinet. I don't have a lot of display room so I might have to use them for work display when the time comes. Stay tuned for what I decide...
My decision to move from upper grade to lower grade was not an easy one and I spent many sleepless nights thinking whether or not this was the right move for me. Why would I leave something so comfortable, so familiar? That's why....too familiar and too comfortable. I got my job teaching 6th grade the month after graduating from Cal State Long Beach and was very green. They saw something in me that set me apart from other candidates and I will be forever grateful for taking that risk on me.
In the last nine years I have made my own curriculum, seen past students graduate high school and even join the military or start their own businesses, won numerous grants to benefit my students, guided teacher trainings throughout the district, and finally witnessed hundreds of students find successes in their learning; whether that's through reading, math, or engineering.
Because of my successes on campus, it's time for me to join another team and share what I've learned and learn new things from them too. I'm ready for a new challenge, to get my hands dirty, and to create a new and better learning environment for younger students. As I drove off campus on my last day, I looked back in my rear view mirror and took a big sigh hoping that a little bit of me will be remembered on that campus forever.
