My decision to move from upper grade to lower grade was not an easy one and I spent many sleepless nights thinking whether or not this was the right move for me. Why would I leave something so comfortable, so familiar? That's why....too familiar and too comfortable. I got my job teaching 6th grade the month after graduating from Cal State Long Beach and was very green. They saw something in me that set me apart from other candidates and I will be forever grateful for taking that risk on me.
In the last nine years I have made my own curriculum, seen past students graduate high school and even join the military or start their own businesses, won numerous grants to benefit my students, guided teacher trainings throughout the district, and finally witnessed hundreds of students find successes in their learning; whether that's through reading, math, or engineering.
Because of my successes on campus, it's time for me to join another team and share what I've learned and learn new things from them too. I'm ready for a new challenge, to get my hands dirty, and to create a new and better learning environment for younger students. As I drove off campus on my last day, I looked back in my rear view mirror and took a big sigh hoping that a little bit of me will be remembered on that campus forever.
